Pets age faster than we do, and they're masters at hiding discomfort. Knowing what to watch for means you can act early and keep your older pet comfortable for longer.
Signs your pet may be feeling their age
- Slowing down, stiffness after rest, or reluctance to jump or climb stairs
- Sleeping more, or seeming grumpy or withdrawn
- Changes in appetite, thirst or weight
- Toileting accidents, or a cat missing the litter tray
- Cloudy eyes, lumps, bad breath or a duller coat
A lot of it is treatable
Much of what we write off as 'just getting old' is actually treatable - arthritis especially. With pain relief, joint support, weight control and a few home changes, most older pets get a real lift in comfort and quality of life.
Twice-yearly checks and nurse clinics make it easy to keep tabs on weight, mobility and comfort, and to catch age-related problems early when they're easier to manage.
