Working Dog Health

Working Dog Health

Your dogs are your right-hand team. We keep working dogs fit, sound and doing what they do best, with practical care built around the realities of farm life.

A good working dog is worth its weight in gold, and the difference between a dog that lasts and one that breaks down early often comes down to small things done well: the right nutrition, quick treatment of niggles, and joint care before arthritis sets in.

We treat working dogs the way we treat the herds they help run - practically, and with an eye on the long game. Whether it is a torn pad mid-muster, a limp that will not settle, or an older dog you want another couple of seasons out of, we will give you a straight answer and a plan that fits your farm.

How we keep your team working

  • Vaccinations and parasite control built for farm dogs
  • Injury, wound and lameness treatment
  • Arthritis and joint care to extend working life
  • Nutrition and body-condition advice for hard-working dogs
  • Desexing, microchipping and routine health checks
  • Pre-season and ageing-dog check-ups

Working Dog Health - your questions

How often should my working dogs be vaccinated?
Farm dogs need the same core vaccines as any dog, plus leptospirosis given their exposure to stock and waterways. We will set a schedule for your whole team and can do them in one visit.
Can you help an older dog that is slowing down?
Yes. Arthritis is common in working dogs, and there is a lot we can do - from joint supplements and pain relief to tailored exercise - to keep an older dog comfortable and working for longer.
Do you see working dogs on-farm?
For routine work it is usually easiest at the clinic, but our vets are on farm regularly and can look at your dogs while they are out. Call us and we will sort the best option.
